The Karakoram Lab
Where theory ends and the laws of physics take over. Every batch of climbing hardware, rope sheath, and structural harness undergoes destructive testing inside our specialized Arctic testing cells before deployment into high-altitude expeditions.
Test Status HUD
Live RigDestructive Testing Protocol
We deliberately test beyond international standards to establish the safety ceiling in unpredictable Karakoram storms.
-40°C Cryogenic Chamber
Standard aluminium becomes brittle at negative temperatures. We soak carabiners and ascenders in liquid nitrogen for 48 hours to confirm zero grain embrittlement and test latch spring rebound.
24 kN Hydraulic Rig
Applies up to 24 kN (2,450 kgf / 5,400 lbs) of calibrated mechanical pull along major and minor axes. Real-time stress transducers record elastic deformation, yield strength, and ultimate tensile failure.
UIAA Drop Tower
Simulates severe Factor 1.77 lead climbing falls using an 80 kg steel test mass dropped from 4.8 meters. Measures dynamic peak impact force, ensuring loads on the human body remain strictly below 8.2 kN.
Granite Edge Simulator
Rope sheaths and Dyneema slings are dragged over authentic 90° Passu granite edge samples under 100 kg continuous tension for 2,000 cycles to certify high abrasion and cut resistance.
